The Reason YOU Should Be at the Club 7.30pm Thursdays…

CLUB NIGHT!!

Come down to the club and have a hit on court, shoot some pool, play some table-tennis, throw some darts and then enjoy a drink in the bar afterwards. Clubnight is our social night of the week and everyone is welcome, including Non-members (for $8.50), so bring your mates down and introduce them to our great game. We can organise games for you with other members of your own ability, so not only will you get good games you might even increase your pool of playing partners. We also aim to have coaching available each week. Club nights will run every Thursday starting from Feb 3rd.

Squash Committee

This season we have a keen Squash Committee who will be organizing and running our club events. These include club nights, social events and tournaments. The committee’s goal is to see as many members as possible involved in our club social events and tournaments. YOU can help us achieve this goal simply by attending events and enjoying the game of Squash we all love!! If you have any ideas or queries feel free to contact me or talk to a member of the committee.

The squash committee consists of:

  • Mike Martin (Chairperson)
  • Julie Bunn
  • Marcus Lynam
  • Matt Evison
  • Nick O'Leary
  • Wanita Jackson
  • Gareth Moran
  • Gary Cairns

A Brief History

The Hamilton Squash and Tennis Club as we know it today is an amalgamation of the Hamilton Squash Racquets Club and the Hamilton Tennis Club.

Hamilton Squash Racquets Club began in 1936 as an "all male", one court club in Barton Street. Steady growth saw three courts opened on the present Tristram Street site in 1960. A fourth court was added in 1964, the Gallery Court in 1971 and major alterations and extensions were carried out in 1983 including the addition of the glassback Court. The Club has had the honour of hosting World Events in 1971, 1983 and 1989 as well as many National Championships. We boast Nine National champions, three men and six women, our most famous being Susan Devoy and most recent, Leilani Rorani.  Hamilton Tennis Club began in the early 1900's with one singles court and three doubles courts in the vicinity of the St Peters Tennis Club moving to Hinemoa Park in the 1920's.  The Club boasted some top tennis players of the day, one being A W Sims who was NZ Singles Champion in 1923. The Tennis Club has been on its present Tristram Street site since 1985 and amalgamated with the Squash Club in 1991. In 1992 both club names were changed to become known as the Hamilton Squash and Tennis Club Inc.
